University Medical Complex - Karachi

University Medical Complex (UMC), located in Karachi, Pakistan is a vision decades in the making

IMI is constructing a state-of-the-art 500 bedded hospital and medical complex located in Gulistan-e-Johar on University Road. The land for the project has been donated by the Zaidi Abid Foundation.

  • Joint Project by Imamia Medics International, Baqir Health and Education Welfare Trust, and the Zaidi Abid Foundation
  • Approval by Construction Authority of Sindh has been obtained
  • Construction to begin on 5000 square yard plot first
  • 70% of the income generated will be reinvested into facilities
  • A second feasibility study is underway
  • Consultation firms within Pakistan have been engaged
  • International faculty from Canada, Pakistan, the US, and the UK are already on board

Project Update: The Foundation Stone is Laid

The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of this esteemed project was held on Saturday, 17th December 2022 at project site in Gulistan-e-Johar Karachi and was attended by numerous supporters and honored dignitaries. Highlights of the event are included in the video above.

The Vision

The vision behind UMC is to become a Center of Excellence in Specialized Healthcare in Pakistan with affordable healthcare for all communities regardless of faith backgrounds, race, ethnicity—serving humanity and saving lives together.

The Mission

To provide high quality, affordable, equitable, specialized healthcare through an integrated clinical ecosystem of professional excellence, clinical education, innovation and research.

The Collaboration

IMI has partnered with two reputable non-profits also working in Pakistan to ensure that together we can improve affordable access to quality healthcare in the country: the Zaidi Abidi Foundation and the Baqir Health & Education Welfare Trust.

The “Zaidi Abid Foundation” (ZAF): working for last 30 years and offering incredible support and resources including 2 large pieces of prime lands for the hospital in Gulistan-e-Johar.

‘Baqir Health and Education Welfare Trust’ (BET): working for last 20 years & offering unfaltering support to this noble cause of affordable hospital.

The total project cost is $33 million and the first phase requires 4 million. $400,000 has been pledge thus far and more than $167,000 raised thus far. Your support is needed now to make this much-needed project a reality.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was the Keynote Speaker at IMI’s 14th Annual National Conference in Houston, Texas, where addressing an august assembly of over 600, including Doctors, Scientists and Professionals from across the strata, she highlighted the most outstanding relief and humanitarian work IMI has been under taking around the globe for the past 25 years and most recently in the Pakistan floods. Congresswoman Lee, also Founder and Co-chair of the Pakistan Caucus & Pak-American Friendship Council Presented IMI with its first ever Congressional Recognition Award highlighting IMIs years of relentless efforts and dedication in serving humanity in more than 17 countries. This award was complimented with yet another Congressional Award presented to IMI on behalf of Congressman Al Greene.

She was full of praise and whole-heartedly endorsed IMI’s Landmark project, The University Medical Complex (UMC) - a 500-bedded state of the art Multi-specialty Medical Health Facility in the heart of Karachi, Pakistan to which a finest Medical & Dental College will be added in subsequent phases.
